Mark Schoen, Ph.D.

Mark Schoen holds a Ph.D. in Health Education from NYU and is an AASECT-Certified Sex Educator. Before founding SexSmartFilms, he served as Director of Sex Education at the Sinclair Intimacy Institute. He has been a longtime peer and contemporary of our own contributors, including Dr. Patti Britton.

For more than three decades, Mark has produced, directed, and curated sex-education films aimed at clinicians, educators, and the public — work that has shaped how an entire generation of professionals teach sexual health. At the Sinclair Intimacy Institute, his collaborations included some of the most respected instructional film series in the field. He founded SexSmartFilms, the largest distribution platform for evidence-based sex-education films in the country.

His editorial focus is on accuracy, clarity, and the difference between sex education and sex marketing — the same standards we hold ourselves to. Mark reviews articles on sexual history, the role of film and media in sex education, and the long-running questions of how culture has shaped what we know — and what we got wrong — about sex.
